Guidant Celebrates National 'Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day'

Some highlights of the Guidant Children learning the ropes today...

Like any new employee's first day, it started with
welcome 'high-fives' from the team.

Next, it was in to the Training Room to learn the biz.

After that: a brainstorm.

Of course, there were also important meetings.

Then it was time to blow off steam with a Kinect game.

And after a hard day of work, the reward was relaxing in the Zen room.

Know Your Customer

A crucial part for a start-up business is getting to know your customer base before launching. Doing market research can help small business owners improve their plans for their product/service.

In an article for
Entrepreneur, Carol Tice writes about this step in detail. She says ". . . not getting customer feedback is a major mistake that can cost you a lot of time and money – and ultimately, your business."

Tice interviews Ash Maurya, the founder of the measurement-apps company Spark59, about advice for small business owners conducting market research.

Maurya suggests avoiding focus groups. "Often, one person in the focus group has a strong opinion and hijacks the discussion, pressuring everyone to agree with him or her. So you've got 10 people in a room, but you end up with just one opinion."
